Starting with a diploma in nursing in 1968, Dr. Mannahan served in the U.S. Army for two years & then worked in a small mountain hospital in California. After her move to Oklahoma, she earned her BSN in 1974 and her MS (management focus) in 1978 from the University of Oklahoma. A doctorate in higher education administration followed in 1991 (Oklahoma State University).

Dr. Mannahan has recently joined the Kramer School of Nursing faculty and teaches at the BSN & graduate levels. She worked with the University of Oklahoma College of Nursing for 19 years before retiring in December of 2008; prior to that, she taught at UCO (Edmond) for six years and before that, held a variety of management and clinical positions. She earned the Sigma Theta Tau Outstanding Teaching Award in 2008 & belongs to the Oklahoma Nurses Association, Sigm Theta Tau, and the Oklahoma Organization of Nurse Executives, for which she has served on the board numerous times.

In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Dr. Mannahan works with health care organizations throughout the state on matters related to interdisciplinary team building, documentation, accreditation, delegation, and management development. She is currently working on an manuscript about compassion fatigue; published “Different Worlds: A Cultural Perspective on Nurse-Physician Communication” in 2009. Dr. Mannahan lives in Edmond with her husband, cats, & dog. They enjoy keeping up with grown children & new grandbaby, working on various home and church projects, and volunteering at the zoo. She reads extensively, loves music & movies, and is learning to live a healthier lifestyle.
