Debbie Barnett earned her Associates of Applied Science Degree in Nursing from Oklahoma City Community College in 2008. While in her ADN program, she gained experience in surgical nursing by completing a summer extern program at Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City. Upon graduation and licensure, she worked at Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City as a PCCU staff nurse. She continued her nursing education by obtaining her Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree in 2009 and her Master of Science in Nursing degree in 2010, both from Oklahoma City University. She joined Kramer School of Nursing in January 2011 as a Clinical Instructor of Nursing and the Simulation and Lab Coordinator. Prior to her nursing career, she worked for ten years in retail management and four years in medical office management. Her clinical passion lies in cardiovascular nursing. Her areas of research interest include cultural nursing and nursing education. She is a member of the American Nurses Association (ANA), Oklahoma Nurses Association (ONA), American Association of Cardiovascular Nurses (AACN), and Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI). She is also co-founder of the Oklahoma Simulation Alliance.
Professor Barnett currently resides in Oklahoma City with her husband Steve and their two dogs. She and her husband have two children and four grandchildren. When not working, she enjoys traveling, kayaking, reading, movies, and quilting.
