Stefanie L. LeGrande earned an Associates of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology at Murray State College and spent her first career as a Licensed Veterinary Technician in Equine Medicine and Surgery. This opportunity allowed for experience in critical care, neonate foal care, and anesthesia, as well as experience in the operating room. During this time, she pursued her Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Sciences with the emphasis in Biology and Education at the University of Central Oklahoma. After almost a decade in Equine Medicine and Surgery, she then decided to pursue a degree in Nursing. While in nursing school, she gained experience in an outpatient orthopedic surgery center and at the Heart Hospital of Oklahoma. After obtaining a Bachelors of Nursing from Southern Nazarene University, Professor LeGrande she worked for Edmond Hospital in the perioperative setting. Her career change turned into one of her life’s passions after becoming a Director of Nursing within an Assisted Living/Alzheimer’s unit, working with individual residents and family members to improve health outcomes in both settings. After her experiences in this setting, she earned her Masters in Nursing Education from Oklahoma Baptist University. Her research areas of interest include Geriatrics and Professional Learning Communities for Nurse Educators, and she is attempting to publish in both areas. She was the recipient of a Clinical Excellence Award in 2006 and is a member of the Honor Society for Nursing Sigma Theta Tau. She currently teaches or participates in Foundations of Nursing, Health Assessment, and Pharmacolgy. When not teaching, she can be found with family, riding and showing her horses, or at an International Cat Association sanctioned show with one of her Bengal Cats.
