Cené Gibson, MSN, APRN, NP-C, earned an Associate of Science in Nursing degree from Dodge City Community College in Kansas. After graduating, she moved to Oklahoma to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Central Oklahoma. While working full-time as a practical nursing instructor and medical-surgical nurse, she obtained a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix. She also functioned as a professor at a local community college while completing a Post-Master’s Certificate to become a Family Nurse Practitioner through St. Louis University. Currently, she is pursuing the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree through Oklahoma City University. Cene’ works part-time as a primary care provider in a nurse practitioner-owned family practice in Oklahoma City and volunteers for Fundacion Manos Juntas free clinic, where she also serves on the board of directors. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, the Oklahoma Nurses Association, the American Nurses Association, and the Oklahoma Nurse Practitioners Association. Prof. Gibson has varied interests, including reading and gardening. She has three grown daughters Jacie, Kenne, and Jacklyn.

  • Improving and/or eliminating health disparities among low-income minority patients
  • Improving cultural humility among primary care nurse practitioners utilizing Appreciative Inquiry
  • Women’s issues – empowerment, domestic violence prevention and intervention
  • Social Justice
