ELIGIBILITY, ADMISSIONS AND PROGRESSION PROCESS
CURRICULUM
COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

ADMISSION

In order to be admitted to the MSN program, the applicant must meet the following qualifications:

• Admission to the University by the Office of Graduate Admissions
• BSN from a nationally accredited ("recognized") nursing program
• Undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher or prior completion of a master’s degree in another field
• Completion of a course in health assessment and a course in statistics (prerequisite to Advanced Nursing Research)
• Registered Nurse licensure
• TOEFL score of 550 or higher (if English is not the mother tongue)

Although not required for admission, the following requirements must be met as specified if the MSN student is admitted to the program:

• Health requirements specified by each agency where clinical and practical experiences will occur, including immunizations and health tests
• Professional liability insurance before beginning practicum or clinical experiences
• Background checks and drug screenings required by any clinical facility where a patient care practicum may be conducted

Application Deadlines

To be considered for entry into the nursing program, the application process must be complete by the deadline shown below. This includes application to the university received by the Office of Admissions, the most current official transcripts received by the university Transcript Coordinator, and the “Verification of English Language Requirement” form with an accompanying TOEFL score, if warranted, received by the relevant Kramer School of Nursing program specialist.

The only exception is for courses in progress during the summer term prior to an August start date or the fall semester prior to a January start date. Confirmation of the grades earned for those courses can be submitted after the deadline listed below, but must be received prior to beginning nursing classes. The only acceptable temporary confirmations are an unofficial transcript, a signed original letter on university letterhead from the course’s professor listing the grade for the designated course with the student’s name, or a copy of the grade report printed from the university’s system. To enroll in courses the second semester of the nursing program, an official transcript verifying those grades must be received.

Deadlines:

August 1 to begin nursing classes in August

December 1 to begin nursing classes in January. Starting with the Fall semester is strongly preferred.

ELIGIBILITY STATEMENT

Due to the strenuous nature of nursing and practice orientation of Oklahoma City University's Kramer School of Nursing program, the School reserves the right to determine the eligibility of any student to enroll or continue in the nursing program. This decision is based on considerations including, but not limited to, characteristics required of a professional nurse. Eligibility is determined by the faculty's evaluation of a student's ability to perform the skills necessary to complete the course objectives, and includes attitudinal and behavioral components. These elements are re-evaluated each semester.

PROGRESSION PROCESS

To progress to each subsequent semester, the student must earn grades of B- or better in courses with an NURS prefix, maintain a 3.0 OCU GPA, and complete prerequisites for that semester.
