NCSBN is also the organization that develops and administers the NCLEX-RN (the examination required for Registered Nurse licensure anywhere in the USA and its territories). The top 10% ranking is based on KSN's graduates’ success passing the NCLEX-RN. In 2008, KSN had only one graduate fail the exam on the first attempt, yielding an overall pass rate of 98%. The national pass rate average for 2008 was 87%.
