Application Deadlines
To be considered for entry into the nursing program, the application process must be complete by the deadlines shown below. This includes application to the university received by the Office of Admissions, the most current official transcripts received by the university Transcript Coordinator, and the “Verification of English Language Requirement” form with an accompanying TOEFL score, if warranted, received by the relevant Kramer School of Nursing program specialist.
The only exception is for courses in progress during the summer term prior to an August start date or the fall semester prior to a January start date. Confirmation of the grades earned for those courses can be submitted after the deadline listed below, but must be received prior to beginning nursing classes. The only acceptable temporary confirmations are an unofficial transcript, a signed original letter on university letterhead from the course’s professor listing the grade for the designated course with the student’s name, or a copy of the grade report printed from the university’s system. To enroll in courses the second semester of the nursing program, an official transcript verifying those grades must be received.
Deadlines:
August 1 to begin nursing classes in August
January 1 to begin nursing classes in January. The option of starting with the Spring semester is available only on the home campus.
ARTICULATION MADE EASY!
Here is how your prior accomplishments will help you earn a BSN at Oklahoma City University: The applicant admitted into the program who graduated from a nationally accredited nursing school receives 72 credit hours for the associate degree in nursing and RN license.
22 credit hours can be granted from transfer courses, portfolio* credit, or by taking additional courses at Oklahoma City University.
All general education credits can be earned through prior credit at another institution, the university's PLUS (adult education) program, regular university courses, or through challenge examinations such as CLEP.
Students will be required to take 18 credit hours of specified BSN nursing courses and 12 credit hours of general education courses (or electives if such requirements have been met). All students will be required to take at least these 30 credit hours at Oklahoma City University, including the last 15.
RN-to-BSN students who have not completed science or math courses required of for traditional BSN programs are not required to take these courses, but could substitute other courses to achieve the necessary credit hours for graduation.
*Credit granted to RNs by Oklahoma City University for prior learning or portfolio credit will not be posted until their final BSN semester. None of these credits count toward the 30 credit hours of Oklahoma City University residency requirement.
ELIGIBILITY STATEMENT
Due to the strenuous nature of nursing and practice orientation of Oklahoma City University's Kramer School of Nursing program, the School reserves the right to determine the eligibility of any student to enroll or continue in the nursing program. This decision is based on considerations including, but not limited to, characteristics required of a professional nurse. Eligibility is determined by the faculty's evaluation of a student's ability to perform the skills necessary to complete the course objectives, and includes attitudinal and behavioral components. These elements are re-evaluated each semester.
PROGRESSION PROCESS
To progress to each subsequent semester, the student must earn grades of C or better, maintain a 2.5 OCU GPA, and complete prerequisites.
