THE GATEWAY INTO NURSING FOR STUDENTS WANTING A BACHELOR'S DEGREE
The Traditional BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) program is a four-year plan for students who are not yet Registered Nurses. Graduates are eligible to apply for an RN license. People who already have bachelor's degrees in fields other than nursing may want to consider the Bachelor's-to-BSN program instead to finish more rapidly.
Anyone admitted to OCU can declare a major in nursing from the beginning, belong to the Student Nurses Association, participate fully in the nursing school activities, and have a nursing faculty advisor. No separate application is needed to enter the Kramer School of Nursing at any level.
Because of the severe shortage of nurses, the Kramer School of Nursing has no waiting list.
To take junior (3000) level nursing courses, we only ask that you have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better, a TOEFL score of 550 or better if English is not your mother tongue, have completed the prerequisite courses and all but 6 credit hours of General Education courses, and meet the eligibility criteria (see "Eligibility Statement").
Your chances for getting an RN license sooner through our program are better than most other schools. In 2006, 98% of our graduates passed the NCLEX-RN on the first try (compared to the national average of 88%).
"I am receiving the best possible education and I will, because of this excellent education, be able to achieve my goal of a nursing career. The interest you have shown in me, and your efforts to ensure that I succeed in achieving my goal have been very encouraging, and it is difficult to find words to adequately express my deep appreciation."--Jade Hobza, Traditional BSN Student
