Lt. Gov. Mary Fallin Speaks at OCU
Thursday, February 28, 2002
Oklahoma City University Meinders School of Business students in the Business Research and Communications course brought to campus Lt. Gov. Mary Fallin for a speaking engagement on Tues., Feb. 26. A crowd of OCU students, faculty and staff attended the open session.
The students selected Fallin as one of the Oklahoma leaders they wished to hear discuss insights on communication in the workplace. As part of their course assignment, a group of students wrote a persuasive letter inviting Fallin to speak, and made arrangements for her visit to campus.
Fallin spoke about the importance of knowing your audience and their needs prior to giving presentations. She shared humorous stories and told of demanding moments on the campaign trail. The informal presentation included a question and answer period that covered issues concerning the balance between family and work, and business ethics. Fallin’s honest portrayal of women in politics kept the audience attentive and inquisitive.
With an increased focus on student success the OCU Meinders School of Business is dedicated to providing co-curricula activities that allow students to apply their understanding of business-to-business environments. Taught by Associate Professor of Management Barbara McCain, the Business Research and Communications course focuses on learning and applying basic business communication principles, writing and research processes, and making presentations.
