Two OCU Students Will Attend Miss Oklahoma Pageant

Oklahoma City University students Brooke Haley and Kelley Scott will take part in the 2002 Miss Oklahoma Pageant, held June 5 – 8 in the Mabee Center at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa.
Haley, who is from Pryor, Okla., is a junior at OCU and is majoring in early childhood education. She currently holds the title of Miss Oklahoma City University. Scott, who is from Claremore, Okla., is also a junior. She is an accounting major, and currently holds the title of Miss Owasso. The current Miss Oklahoma, Kaci Hundley, is an OCU alumna. She is from Enid, Okla.
The Miss Oklahoma Pageant is affiliated with the Miss America Organization, with which OCU has a rich tradition. In the university’s 98-year history, it has produced three Miss Americas and 28 state pageant winners. OCU alumna Jane Jayroe Gamble was Miss America 1967; alumna Susan Powell was Miss America 1981; and alumna Shawntel Smith was Miss America 1996.
The Miss American Organization is the largest single source of scholarship funds for young women in the world. This year more than $30 million in scholarships will be offered to the contestants of the Miss America Pageant system.
The Miss Oklahoma Pageant offers over $2 million in scholarships annually. Nearly 10,000 women have participated in state and local competitions since the Kiwanis Club of Tulsa started sponsoring the Miss Oklahoma Pageant in 1972.
