OCU Film Series Presents "The Legend of Rita"
Wednesday, October 30, 2002
Oklahoma City University’s Center for Interpersonal Studies Through Film and Literature will continue its series, “The Cry for Moral Leadership Amidst the Battle for God,” at 2 p.m. Nov. 10 with Volker Schlondorff’s “The Legend of Rita.” The 101-minute film will be shown in Oklahoma City University’s Burg Auditorium on the OCU campus, 2501 N. Blackwelder.
From the Academy award-winning director of “The Tin Drum” comes a striking political thriller about radicals caught between East and West Germany in the later years of the Cold War. Anchored by a stunning performance by newcomer Beglau, the film recounts the struggles of a young West German woman up to and including the fall of the Berlin Wall.
As the years pass, she is forced into other identities or legends as she tries to flee from the consequences of her radical past. The film thus becomes a vivid exploration of the emotional dilemmas posed by commitment to a cause.
The series will continue Jan. 19 with Gianni Amelio’s “The Way We Laughed” in Burg Auditorium; Feb. 2 with Majid Majidi’s “Baran” in Petree Auditorium; Feb. 16 with Amos Gitai’s “Kippur” in Burg Auditorium; and March 2 with Zhang Yimou’s “The Road Home” in Petree Auditorium.
Admission to the films is free. However, donations, which help sustain the Institute’s mission, are appreciated.
