STUDY ABROAD REQUIREMENTS

Studying abroad is a very rewarding experience but it takes planning and preparation. If you plan to study abroad, give yourself at least a year of preparation. The majority of national study abroad scholarships are determined one year in advance as well.

When sending a student abroad, we expect the student to uphold the academic and behavioral standards that our university enforces here on campus. In order to be eligible for a study abroad program, our students must satisfy the following criteria:

  • Possess and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Be in good university standing
  • Have a junior or senior status (for semester or academic year programs)

GETTING STARTED

  1. Complete an Application for International Education packet.

  2. Submit your OIE Application and the $30 non-refundable OIE Processing Fee to the Office of International Education. (The Processing Fee may be charged to your student account!)

  3. To receive academic credit, students must have their courses abroad pre-approved. Download course equivalency/enrollment authorization form (this is in the OIE Application)

    • Set up an appointment with your academic advisor.
The academic advisor reviews the list of courses to be taken abroad to see if it fits into your degree plan. The academic advisor will determine if one-to-one course credit is possible or if transfer credit only will apply. Have them sign your Enrollment Authorization Form indicating which type of credit is to be assigned

    • Set up appointment with faculty of record.
To facilitate issuance of academic credit, visit the department chair within the specific department for the equivalent course(s) and have them sign the bottom section of the Enrollment Authorization Form. The faculty’s signature indicates they will assign you a final grade within the OCU system upon successful completion of your study abroad program. For example, if you take a history class, have a history professor sign your Enrollment Authorization Form

HELPFUL HINT: You will need to have a copy of the Enrollment Authorization Form and course descriptions/course syllabi when meeting with your academic advisor and faculty of record.
