Master of Education (M.Ed.) - Montessori Specialization
AMERICAN MONTESSORI SOCIETY | EARLY CHILDHOOD CERTIFICATION
This program is designed for students with a bachelor’s degree. Students take courses leading to American Montessori Society certification while simultaneously working on a master’s degree. Upon completion of the Montessori courses, they will need only 6 hours to complete the master’s program. This master’s degree plan contains concentration in Montessori methods and supportive coursework in other fields, research, and evaluation.
Required for American Montessori Society Early Childhood Certification: Schedule 2009 (tentative)
Sensory Motor Learning (3 hrs): 6/3–6/12*
Psychological Bases of Learning and Guiding Young Children (4 hrs): 6/15-6/26
Perceptual Development (3 hrs): 6/29-7/7*
Language and Reading Development (3 hrs): 7/8–7/21
Basic Concepts of Primary Mathematics (3 hrs): 7/22-7/31
*Possibly offered on Saturdays during spring or fall semester.
A half-day internship 5 days/week in a Montessori 3-6 classroom for the entire school year is required.
Fall Seminar: 3 hrs - 1 weekend
Spring Seminar: 3 hrs - 1 weekend
Materials Construction and Design: 2 hrs - fall semester
Materials Construction and Design: 2 hr - spring semester
Required for Master of Education Degree:
Methods of Research (3 hrs)
Measurement and Evaluation (3 hrs)
Offered in the fall, spring or summer semester.
A written comprehensive exam is required upon completion of the master’s program.
•Students may be eligible for partial tuition grants offered by the Education Dept. For other financial aid, check with the Oklahoma City University Office of Financial Aid.

This program is designed for people with bachelor’s degrees. Students take courses leading to American Montessori Society certification while simultaneously working on a master’s degree and, upon completion of the Montessori courses, need only 6 hours to complete the master program. This master’s degree plan contains concentration in Montessori methods and supportive coursework in other fields, research, and evaluation.
Requirements for AMS Elementary I Certification:
Psychological Bases of Learning (4 hrs)
Montessori Elementary Math & Geometry (4 hrs)
Montessori Elementary Language I (4 hrs)
Montessori Elementary Science/Social Studies (4 hrs)
A full-day internship 5 days/week in a Montessori 6-9 classroom for the entire school year.
Materials Construction and Design (2 hrs) - fall semester
Materials Construction and Design (2 hrs) - spring semester
Fall Seminar (3 hrs) - weekend
Spring Seminar (3 hrs) - weekend
Students not holding Montessori 3-6 certification are required to take a 5 day overview course
