Master of Liberal Arts Degree

Oklahoma City University's Master of Liberal Arts (MLA) degree program is designed to enable adults to acquire broader knowledge, deeper insight and greater understanding of our cultural heritage in the humanistic, social, political and scientific aspects of contemporary civilization. The MLA seeks to lift adults above the provincialism commonly associated with our rapidly changing, increasingly specialized world and to provide them with those general skills which traditionally reflect a liberal education: the abilities to summarize, analyze, evaluate and synthesize in written and oral dialogue; all in an intellectual setting of reflection and values-conscious discourse.

Areas of Emphasis: Students may choose to emphasize:

  • MLAT Art (Studio, Graphic Design, or Photography concentrations)
  • General Studies
  • MLAI International Studies (Asian or European concentrations)
  • MLAM Leadership/Management
  • MLAL Literature or Writing
  • MLA Mass Communications
  • MLAP Philosophy

Each are of emphasis has its own requirements. See the MLA Director for further details.
