Stuart Asprey, assistant professor of ceramics, will have a reception for his exhibit at the Firehouse Art Center in Norman at 6 p.m. Feb. 12. Asprey’s works are on display at the gallery, located at 444 S. Flood, until March 5.

Exhibit Highlights Up-and-Coming Oklahoma Artists

OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City University will host the annual High School Print and Drawing Competition with an exhibit Nov. 1-13, 2009. An opening reception will be held in the Norick Art Center at Blackwelder Avenue and N.W. 26th Street from 2-5 p.m. Nov. 1, including an awards presentation at 3 p.m. The event is free to the public.

The OCU Art Department has hosted the competition every fall since 1985. High school students from across the state are invited to submit their creations for the juried exhibit. Media categories include printmaking, drawing and photography.

“This is a great show to see what’s coming for the Oklahoma art scene,” said Burt Harbison, director of the Hulsey Gallery in Norick Art Center. “This could be the launching pad for some of the best artists in the state.”

Harbison said the Art Department faculty will select 150 works from a pool of 600. The judges will look for variety in media, styles and as much representation of the entire state as possible.

The public is welcome to view the art during the two-week exhibit. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 2-5 p.m. Sunday.

Her recognitions include the Artist’s Award of Excellence from the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition.

She will be exhibiting approximately 20 paintings and mixed-media works at OCU.
