LAST LECTURE SERIES

Each year the philosophy club sponsors a Last Lecture. The philosophy club invites a faculty member who has served at OCU for an extended amount of time to give a lecture as if it were his or her last lecture as a professor. The event thus provides an opportunity for a faculty member to address a public audience on an issue of deep intellectual importance to him or her. Here is a list of recent lecturers and their chosen topics.

2007 Last Lecture Series

Why we have to say,
“The Emperor has no clothes”

Professor Jonathan Willner
Dept. of Economics
Oklahoma City University

7:00 pm
Thursday March 22, 2007
Watson Lounge
Refreshments afterward

Each year, the OCU Philosophy Club invites an esteemed faculty member from OCU to present a guest lecture, as if it were the last lecture of that faculty member’s career. This provides the speaker and the audience to enter into dialogue over an issue that the faculty member believes to be of the utmost importance.

PAUL RICOEUR CONFERENCE

“After Ricoeur: An Interdisciplinary Conference,” October 20-21, 2006. OCU will be hosting an interdisciplinary conference on the work of Paul Ricoeur. Contact us for more information about events and how you can help. www.okcu.edu/ricoeurconference

UNDERGRADUATE CONFERENCES

The philosophy club, in conjunction with the department, encourages majors to present papers at undergraduate conferences, or simply to attend them. This provides majors with a sense of how philosophy is done in other departments and what it is like to present ideas to a public audience. In recent years, majors have attended the Mid-South philosophy conference, the OU Undergraduate Philosophy Conference, and the UCO Undergraduate Philosophy Conference.

If you are not a philosophy major or minor, you are still welcome to participate in philosophy club events. To join our mailing list, contact Dr. Wade Roberts, the philosophy club advisor, at wroberts@okcu.edu.
