All methods of earning credit are supervised by the faculty and staff who have an ongoing involvement with the PLUS Program and Oklahoma City University.
- Portfolio Assessment
The Portfolio is a formal written communication, presented by the student to the university, requesting credit for extra-collegiate learning. A maximum of 31 credit hours may be earned through portfolio assessment. Each PLUS student must complete the Prior Learning Assessment: The Portfolio course, which instructs the student in the development of the portfolio and the process of documenting prior learning before submitting any portfolios for credit.
- Directed Studies
Directed studies are independent studies that are
faculty-guided during a semester or summer term.
Students will complete assignments, communicate with the
instructor, submit work and/or take tests within a
structured time frame that will still allow for
flexibility. These studies are as rigorous as
traditional classes and are not necessarily easier. They
are alternatives to classroom learning. Self-motivated
adults who are comfortable with taking responsibility
for active learning on their own are the most successful
at completing directed studies. These studies are being
integrated into the online platform used by the
accelerated web-based courses.
- Accelerated Courses
Accelerated courses are available for the students to attend class, complete assignments, take tests, etc., just as in any traditional college course. However, each class meets one night per week in six or eight week modules. New accelerated courses begin January, March, May, July, August, and October.
- Weekend Courses
Weekend courses are accelerated courses, but meet on weekends, within six or eight week modules. New courses begin January, March, May, July, August, and October.
- Traditional Day and Evening Courses
Traditional courses are courses that are listed in the regular semester schedules, which are printed two times each calendar year. Campus courses are scheduled in a typical 16-week term for spring and fall semesters and two six-week terms in the summer semester.
- Web-based Courses
Web-based courses are offered within six or eight week modules.
TRANSFER CREDIT POLICIES
A maximum of 94 semester credit hours is accepted as transfer/prior learning. Transfer/prior learning can be from any regionally accredited higher education institution, American Council on Education (ACE) credit recommendations, standardized testing, or portfolio-assisted assessment. Transfer credits must be a "C" or better and are evaluated on a course-by-course basis. A maximum of 68 credits will be accepted from community colleges.
