The application period for the position of President of Oklahoma City University has closed. A large pool of highly qualified candidates submitted application materials. The Presidential Search Committee has reviewed all applications and has invited some candidates to interview.

President McDaniel formally announced his retirement effective June 30, 2010.

The Board of Trustees Executive Committee appointed a 15-member Presidential Search Committee, with Ronald J. Norick, trustee and alumnus serving as chair, and Paula Dalley, professor of law, serving as vice-chair.

To ensure the privacy of potential candidates, members of the presidential search committee signed a confidentiality agreement.

Research regarding prior and current searches for university presidents was conducted.

Literature related to "best practices" in conducting presidential searches was reviewed.

Search chairs met with other Oklahoma higher education officials who have recently conducted presidential searches.

Print and web ads were developed and placed in the Chronicle of Higher Education, HigherEducationJobs.com, HBCU Connect, Women in Higher Education. The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities was not included due to a December publish date.

A presidential search website was developed with a link on the OCU web front page, www.okcu.edu. New materials will be added to the site throughout the search process.

The campus and university constituents received a five-question survey. Survey responses were distributed to search committee members.

A summary of leadership qualities was developed using survey results.

Applications and nominations are being received.

University publications and other pertinent materials are being mailed to candidates.

Initial interviews will begin soon and will continue through November.

Nominations and applications will be accepted until the successful candidate has been selected.
