Badminton
Scoring:
Only the serving side can score a point. A game will consist of 11 points (straight). A match will consist of the best of 3 games. Each team will change ends after every game.
Service (toss):
The right of service will be decided by a flip of a coin or by the home team. After the initial service the receiving side must win two rallies to retrieve it.
Faults:
Faults are infringements that end a rally. If the server commits a fault, the service passes to his opponent. If the non-server commits a fault, the server wins a point.
- Service Faults
- The shuttle cannot be hit above waist level.
- The head of the racket must be below the lowest part of the hand that is holding it.
- The server's feet must be in the correct service court, and both feet must be in contact with the floor (no diving or jumping).
- The receiver cannot move before the shuttle is struck by the server.
- There is a fault if the shuttle lands outside the correct service court.
- General Faults
- There is a fault if the shuttle drops outside the court.
- There is a fault if shuttle fails to go over the net.
- The player cannot hit the receiver with the shuttle, (receiver cannot try to get hit).
- A player is at fault if he/she hits the shuttle twice or a player and his/her partner cannot hit the shuttle with successive shots.
- The shuttle cannot be struck before it crosses the net.
- A player cannot touch the net or the post while the shuttle is in play.
- A player cannot obstruct or distract his/her partner.
Officials:
The umpire or the Intramurals Sports Director will be the final authority on calls made during each match. Arguing a decision could result in loss of points, a game, a match, or disqualification from the tournament.
