Clara Luper Scholarship

The Clara Luper Scholarship Program demonstrates that access and opportunity are the critical components necessary for underserved students to realize the goal of a private college education. Scholars’ retention rates exceed national averages, and barriers presented by socioeconomic status are greatly reduced because of this program. Oklahoma City University is committed to student success.

Leadership
Oklahoma City University stands alone in awarding a scholarship of this magnitude. The Clara Luper Scholarship Program helps provide a private college education to deserving students who may not otherwise have the opportunity.
We are Oklahoma City’s university and want our student population to reflect the community we serve. The Clara Luper Scholarship Program promotes the United Methodist tradition of scholarship and service by removing the primary barrier to a private university education — cost.

The Structure
Scholarship candidates must submit an application, provide an essay, and complete an interview. From the 30 students chosen each year to represent the Clara Luper Scholarship Program, Devon Energy executives will choose five. Those students have the opportunity to earn an internship with the company and develop relationships with key industry professionals.

After all available state and/or federal aid or other scholarships received have been applied, the Clara Luper Scholarship:
» Pays the remaining balance for tuition, applicable fees, room, and board
» Provides a $200 per semester book allowance from the Clara Luper Book Library
» Provides support services dedicated to the growth, welfare, and success of each student

Students are eligible for up to eight consecutive semesters of the scholarship provided they maintain a level of good standing with the university and complete program requirements each semester. Summer school is not included unless the student has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and meets all program requirements.
