Miss Black OCU 2007

Tinasha Williams

Greetings! My name is Tinasha LaRayé Williams and I am Miss Black Oklahoma City University 2007 and Miss Black Oklahoma 2007.

I entered the Miss Black Oklahoma contest as the reigning Miss Black OCU. I am currently a senior from Oklahoma City working towards a Bachelors of Arts degree in Theatre Performance. Servant Leadership and Community Service are two very important things in my life. I am currently a volunteer cheerleading coach for Star Spencer High School. Through detailed physical training, choreography, and coordinating cheerleading skills, I help young girls set and reach goals, learn to work together as a unit, and have an attitude of excellence in performing that can correlate with their performance in life. I believe campus involvement is another way to strengthen servant leadership and serve the campus community. I am currently a member of Sisterhood of African American Students, an organization that was created to strengthen the bond between African American women at OCU and help unite those of similar thinking to tackle issues in the Black community. Alpha Psi Omega is another organization that I am apart of. It is a theatre national honors society that promotes growth in both the performing and technical elements of theatre. The Filmmaker’s Guild is one of the newer organizations on campus that I serve in as the Public Relations officer. With plans to pursue a Masters Degree in Film Production, this organization provides a creative and learning outlet for moving image art and the business of film that will be beneficial to my future education and future life goals.

As Miss Black Oklahoma my message reaches out to everyone in any area of life, but I have a strong passion to speak directly to the African American youth of today. I hope to travel throughout the state carrying a message that instills work ethic and assists in the development of character in disadvantaged youth through the arts and the appreciation of Black History in the arts. With the statistics high for disadvantaged persons going to jail, experiencing teen pregnancies, and involvement with drugs and gangs, disadvantaged youth of today need a positive message that will help them recognize the opportunities and open doors that lay before them. This performance of “S.T.A.G.E.” will communicate the value in having Self worth and esteem, the Tools for success, an Appreciation of one’s history, a personal Game plan, and an attitude of Excellence!

Sincerely,
Tinasha L. Williams
