ACTING/PERFORMANCE
The Department of Theatre offers two performance degrees: the BFA in Acting and the BA in Theatre Performance. The BFA in Acting is an exciting, pre-professional training program. It combines the best of conservatory/studio training with the breadth of the general education requirements that have made Oklahoma City University one of the nation's best small universities.
BFA actors will take 9 acting classes over their 4 years (including Improvisation, Chekhov, Shakespeare, Acting Styles, Auditions and two semesters of On-Camera Acting), along with extensive voice and movement training, a study of script analysis and theatre history, and an introduction to technical theatre and directing. Our BFA graduates will be ready to face any of the challenges that will confront professional actors in today's job market.
Undergraduates enrolled in the BA in Theatre Performance program receive more varied performance training – including on-camera acting, voice and dance. The student’s cross-training in voice and dance are provided by the Bass School of Music and the Ann Lacy School of Dance. The BA program offers six different acting classes. Students will also take voice, diction, movement as well as history, theory and design/production classes. Theatre students who wish to double major or work toward an education certification in secondary speech/drama/debate can only be BA – Theatre Performance majors.
Information on auditioning for either the BFA – Acting or BA – Theatre Performance can be found here.
