OCU invites the community, local high school students, and OCU undergraduate students to submit their best original works of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and plays to compete for scholarships and cash prizes.
High school students
Scholarships in the amounts of $500 and $1,000 will be awarded to attend OCU. High school students who wish to enter the scholarship contest should send fiction, non-fiction, or a play of no more than 3,000 words, or poetry of no more than 1,000 words, to Professor Danita Berg. Students may enter submissions in more than one genre, but can enter no more than one work in each genre. Students should include their name, address, e-mail, school attended, and expected year of graduation on the first page of their work.
Community
One cash prize of $100 and one cash prize of $50 will be awarded for writing in any genre. Writers should send a work of fiction, non-fiction, or a play of no more than 3,000 words; or a poem of no more than 1,000 words; to Professor Danita Berg. Writers should include their name, address, and e-mail on the first page.
OCU undergraduate students
OCU students not currently part of the MFA program can compete for gift certificates to the OCU Bookstore. Students who wish to enter the contest should send fiction, non-fiction, or play of no more than 3,000 words, or poetry of no more than 1,000 words, to Professor Danita Berg in the English Department. Students may enter submissions in more than one genre, but can enter no more than one work in each genre. Students should include their name, address, and school e-mail on a title page separate from the work; the work should have the title on the first page but no information about the student. Students do not need to be English majors or minors.
