Affiliated/Approved Programs

Affiliated/Approved programs are study abroad programs offered by third party providers who charge their own tuition and program fees. Students may use federal, state, and outside funding toward the cost of these programs, and frequently affiliated programs, in particular, offer competitive scholarships to participants.

Affiliated/Approved programs typically provide a more managed study abroad experience for participants, students may take courses at a university abroad, at a "study center" run by the program provider, or a combination of the two. Typically, these programs provide more student support services designed for the needs and expectations of U.S. college students. Students who have never traveled outside the U.S. may feel more comfortable with the additional student support services and the likelihood of studying with more U.S. students.

ACADEMIC CREDIT: Students receive transfer credit for courses taken abroad through affiliated/approved programs. Courses must be preapproved by the OCU advisor and filed with the director of academic services.

Currently Oklahoma City University has approved the following program providers: Academic Programs International (API), CIEE, CIS Abroad, The Education Abroad Network (TEAN), Global Semesters, SIT Study Abroad, and University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC).
