OKCU-Doers Cultural Exchange Program

About the Program

Through the generosity of the Doers Cultural and Educational Foundation, a team of 16 OKCU students have traveled to Taiwan or Mainland China for two weeks each July since 2015. While abroad, they team up with Taiwanese and Chinese college students and work with school-aged campers in a summer cultural exchange program. In addition to the cultural exchange camps, students will experience many aspects of China and Taiwan's natural beauty and rich culture.

This unique program requires participants who enjoy meeting people from another culture, working with children and teenagers, and living in a rural, rustic setting that offers the heat and humidity of the tropics. Students accepted for this program should desire to be part of a team determined to be positive representatives of US culture and interested in actively and creatively engaging with Taiwanese youth, university students, and the adults who will work with them.

The selection process starts with an application which are evaluated by a campus committee. The finalists, drawn from across campus, are then invited to an interview with the selection committee.

Applications for the summer 2019 program will open January 1, 2019 and close January 31, 2019. Interviews occur in February.

Most costs for the program are paid from the Doers Foundation endowment, including housing, meals, and international airfare; however, students are responsible for obtaining a valid passport and, if necessary, a visa.
