New this year! Meet ALEX, your personalized benefits counselor!

ALEX explains your benefit options in plain English and helps you choose the plans that make the most sense for you and your family.

In an effort to make the Open Enrollment period work better for you, we’re pleased to introduce this new online tool for anyone who wants a better understanding our benefit plans and programs covered by Open Enrollment.

ALEX will ask you a series of questions to walk you through benefits offerings and suggest appropriate plans based on your answers.  Start your conversation with ALEX to get in the know to make sound, informed decisions about benefits that are best for you and your family.

Click HERE to start your conversation with ALEX.  Try it!  You’ll like it! When you and ALEX have decided what choices are best for you, hop over to our handy, all-in-one, online Open Enrollment Form to make your selections.

We've also scheduled in-person information sessions for you too!

What do I need to do?

All benefit-eligible employees must complete the online Open Enrollment form to elect, confirm, change, and/or waive benefits for the 2018 plan year. Remember, ALEX can assist you in understanding our plans and determining your elections, but you must submit the Online Enrollment form to select benefits for 2018.

Things to remember for this year:

  • All employees will be asked to complete the 2018 Wellness Waiver covering the upcoming calendar year as part of the online form. This waiver covers wellness program activities as well as use of the on-campus fitness center.
  • Our Flex Spending administrator, Advantage Benefits Plus, has a new online enrollment form to get to the Advantage Benefits portal to complete your enrollment. You can review instructions here. You will be directed to the Flex Spending Portal via the Open Enrollment Form.

When do I need to do it by?

All Open Enrollment forms must be submitted by November 3. Otherwise, existing benefit coverage will be terminated December 31, 2017.

Extra Credit! Complete wellness incentives to get deductible credits in 2018 and a $50 gift card!

Other Changes to Consider

While we’ve got your attention, now is a good time to think about other changes you may need to make regarding benefits and employee information.

  • If there has been a change in your life, for example, marriage or divorce, now is a good time to think about your beneficiary designations for your university-provided life insurance benefit and/or TIAA account.
  • If you’re planning to retire or leave your position before the end of 2018, be sure to take that into account when making flex spending elections.
  • If you have a young child who will visit the dentist for the first time in 2018, be sure to add your child to your dental plan coverage during open enrollment.
  • If you moved to a new address, be sure to update your address with the university.
  • The university’s retirement plans are not part of Open Enrollment and you may enroll or make changes to your coverage or enrollment in these plans at any time.  Retirement plan information is available HERE.
