Oklahoma City University’s School of Visual Arts is excited for you to join us this year meeting our program chairs, exploring the Nona Jean Hulsey Gallery and learning from our visiting artists. The fall season brings a variety of artistic media from light installations, an international print exchange and renowned artists talks. Explore our events below and how you can engage with us.

Artist Talks

The School of Visual Arts would like you to join us via Zoom for our artist talks this fall. See below for each event description and registration information.

Holly Wilson, Native Thoughts in Contemporary Art | September 24th, 6pm

Holly Wilson will present her work and lead a discussion on how culture affects your art with an emphasis on Native artists. Wilson is a multi-media artist from Oklahoma who specializes in figurative work. She has been exhibiting her work nationally and internationally since the early 1990s. Her most recent exhibition can be seen at Crystal Bridges Museum of Art.

Shelley Thorstensen, Innovative Printmaking | October 22nd, 6pm

Shelley Thorstensen is an Oklahoma native and the current director of Printmakers Open Forum, LLC in Oxford, PA. Thorstensen describes her work as “a result of the confluence of inner and outer stimuli.” Thorstensen’s work can be seen in The Print Center in Philadelphia, PA. Join us as she discusses her work and the art of printmaking.

Gallery Shows

The Nona Jean Hulsey Gallery is open to the public Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. While we won’t be hosting gallery openings this fall due to COVID, you are welcome to explore the gallery during visiting hours. See below for our gallery shows and more information on how you can participate.

Light on the Horizon | Open now through October 13th

A selection of works from the Christian Keesee Collection featuring a video projection light installation by Chad Mount – “Meadow Rhythms”. This show is provided by a grant from the Kirkpatrick Family Foundation and in partnership with Bright Golden Haze, Oklahoma Contemporary.

Collect Connect 2 | October 21st – December 16th

Second annual international juried print exchange and alternative printmaking show curated by Emma Diffani and Alexa Goetzinger. The print exchange will be photographed and video tapped and will run in conjunction with the Shelley Thorstensen artist talk.
