Important factors to be considered are academic records, achievement on scholastic aptitude tests, desirable traits of character and personality, and the interest and goals of the applicant in relation to the programs of study offered by the University. Admission Requirements
GPA Requirement
Full admission to most undergraduate and graduate programs at Oklahoma City University require the equivalent of a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Evaluations of international transcripts are not required. The Office of International Admissions will evaluate and determine the U.S. GPA equivalent of foreign transcripts and grade sheets.
English Proficiency
Most programs require TOEFL 79, IELTS 6.5 overall with no sub-score below 6.0, PTE 53, or successful completion of ELS Level 112. Some programs have higher requirements.
Between April 1 and August 31, 2020 a Duolingo English Test score of 95, or 105 for MSA and MBA applicants, will also be accepted.
- Nursing: TOEFL 83 with Speaking Section score of at least 26, IELTS overall 7.0 with minimum of 7.0 Speaking Section and at least 6.5 in other sub-bands
- Global Energy MBA: TOEFL 93 or IELTS 7.0 with no sub-bands below 7.0
Provisional Admission
For most undergraduate programs, students with a TOEFL score between 61 and 78 may be provisionally admitted to begin their degree program on probation. Provisionally admitted undergraduate students must complete 12 credit hours with a 2.0 GPA or submit a new qualifying TOEFL score to continue in the program.
Conditional Admission
Students that do not meet the English Proficiency requirements can apply for conditional admission to study intensive English at the ELS Language Center located on OCU's campus. Students that are conditionally admitted will receive a conditional admission letter from OCU but must apply for an I-20 from ELS.
Test Scores
SAT and ACT are not required for international student admission but will be considered for scholarship eligibility.
GMAT is not required to apply to the MBA or MSA programs, but a score of 475+ is recommended.
A GRE of 297 or better is recommended (but not required) for MSCS admission.
GRE is required for admission to doctoral programs.
Required Application Documents
The following documents are required for admission to Oklahoma City University and should be uploaded as part of your online application.
Online Application Form
International Student Application (For ALL international students excluding Nursing: undergraduate, graduate, and transfer)
Nursing (including RN-to-BSN) - Must Apply through NursingCAS and submit the Supplemental Nursing Application.
Application Fee
An application fee of $60 is required for all applicants. Application fee can be paid by credit card as part of the online application or can be submitted by check.
Academic Records (Transcripts, Mark Sheets, Grade Sheets, etc.)
Soft copies of all academic records can be uploaded as part of the online application form. Official or certified copies must be submitted prior to enrollment. Transcripts in a language other than English must be accompanied by a certified English translation.
Academic records and transcripts should be issued by your previous school and should be sent in a sealed envelope to Oklahoma City University directly to be considered official. Transcripts marked "Issued to Student" will not be accepted as official.
Proof of English Proficiency
All applicants whose native language is not English must meet OCU's English Proficiency requirements (see Admission Requirements above).
Accepted proof of English Proficiency are:
- Duolingo English Test with a minimum score of 95, or 105 for MSA and MBA applicants. Will be accepted between April 1 and August 31, 2020.
- TOEFL
- IELTS
- PTE
- Successful completion of ELS Language Center level 112
- Successful completion of at least 24 credit hours of university-level coursework or two years of high school in the U.S., Canada, Australia, or UK.
Official test score results are required prior to enrollment.

Financial Statement of Support
International students are required to show evidence that they, their parents, or a sponsor have the financial ability to pay for tuition and living expenses during the time that they study in the U.S.
Financial ability is normally demonstrated by submitting a bank statement accompanied by a letter of sponsorship or this form. This documentation of financial ability must be submitted to OCU before an I-20 can be issued and may be requested by the U.S. Consulate or Embassy when you apply for your F1 student visa.

- Most Undergraduate: $46,889
- Undergraduate Music: $48,899
- MSCS, MSA: $28,065
- MBA, Global Energy MBA (one-year program): $44,470
- MA TESOL (with 36 credit hour Flat-Rate Tuition): $25,869
- MA Non-Profit Leadership (one-year program): $41,950
These amounts represent the estimated 12 month costs that a student may incur at OCU including tuition, fees, living expenses, books, and health insurance.
Original Personal Statement
A personal statement should tell us something about your background and your future goals, particularly in relation to your studies. Do not copy your personal statement from the internet or other sources. Personal statements should be your own individual writing and should tell us a little bit about YOU! We do not expect personal statements to be perfect essays - just an introduction to you and why you want to study at Oklahoma City University. Personal statements that are found to be copied from the internet or other sources will result in a denial of admission.
*Students applying for conditional admission are not expected to submit a personal statement until they have completed their English language study.
MBA Applicants
For your Personal Statement, please respond to the following three questions. Each response should be 150-200 words. Your responses should be uploaded as a supporting documents to the online application or can be emailed to ia@okcu.edu. Responses should be entirely original and should pull from your life experiences.
- If admitted to the fast-paced and rigorous Meinders One-Year MBA Program, explain how your academic background and/or work experience will contribute to your success.
- What do you consider your professional strengths? Provide a specific example from your work or school experience demonstrating one of your strengths. Then, identify at least one area in which you would like to improve and why.
- Today’s workplace often requires employees to work within groups. Provide one example of your working effectively within a group. Then, share a time that you had to work on a team that didn’t get along. What happened? What role did you take? What was the result?
MSCS Applicants
For your personal statement, please respond to the following three questions. Each response should be 150-200 words. Your responses should be uploaded as a supporting documents to the online application or can be emailed to ia@okcu.edu. Responses should be entirely original and should pull from your life experience.
- Describe a difficult, complex problem or project you have faced. How did you decide what to do first? What information did you need and collect? What obstacles did you face and how did you overcome them?
- Describe a time when you had to present a complex programming and/or technical problem to a person who was not technical. What did you do? How did you handle it? How did you ensure that the other person understood you?
- Describe a programming problem you would like to solve. Explain the significance to you and what steps you can take to identify a solution.
MSA Applicants
Applicants for the Master of Science in Accounting program should submit a 750-1000 word statement of why the M.S.A. is being sought.
Two Letters of Recommendation
For graduate applicants only. Recommendations can be academic or professional.
You may use this recommendation form if you wish, but it is not required.

- Freshman Scholarship Applicants: Official SAT or ACT score report
- Music Program Applicants: Music applicants may submit a recorded or live audition. To submit a recorded audition, students should first complete their application to Oklahoma City University. Next, review the audition requirements. Finally, submit your recorded audition through Acceptd. Auditions submitted by DVD, YouTube, or any other means will not be accepted. Students that would like to audition in person should complete the Audition Request Form.
- Transfer from another U.S. School: SEVIS Transfer Request Form
- MBA and MSA Applicants: A GMAT score is not required to apply, but it is recommended and may be requested in the event that additional information is needed to make an admission decision.
- MSCS Applicants: A GRE score is not required to apply, but it is recommended.
