Smokewood Institute for Young Writers
July 13-15

Smokewood Institute for Young Writers is an intensive weekend program of writing workshops, craft sessions, creative readings, and a culminating anthology of student work.

Our curriculum draws from the instruction of our Introductory Creative Writing course here at OKCU. Our course is taught by publishing college professors, with programming that runs in conjunction with the Red Earth MFA program.

To be eligible, students must have completed at least their sophomore year of high school, and certain test scores and GPA may be required. For more information, please email Dr. Karen Schiler at keschiler@okcu or check out the Smokewood Institute for Young Writers on Facebook.

Meinders Business Academy

Open to high school sophomores, juniors and seniors, this 3-day Summer Business Camp at Oklahoma City University will teach students about careers in business and give them the opportunity to meet executives working in thriving Oklahoma companies - all while getting outside to experience exciting field trips in some of Oklahoma’s landmark locations.

Broadway Bound Dance Camp

The Broadway Bound summer dance camp is for high school students entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year who are interested in the vast world of Broadway and entertainment dance (high schoolers entering their freshmen year of college are also welcome to attend). The 11-day camp experience is packed with over 70 hours of dance classes and rehearsals focusing on multiple dance techniques used in the entertainment industry.

Acting for Stage & Screen

The Acting for Stage and Screen program is an extension of the acclaimed OKCU theatre program. Under the direction of Theatre OKCU professors, students from across the United States and around the world participate in a pre-college intensive, focusing on acting techniques for both stage and screen. This program is for students who are currently in 9th-12th grade. Seniors who have been accepted into OKCU are also welcome to attend without auditioning; they must, however, meet all additional admission requirements.

Oklahoma Children’s Theatre

Oklahoma Children’s Theatre runs 5-day performing and visual art camps each week starting the day after Memorial Day and ending mid-August. Every summer we offer a wide range of summer camps for Oklahoman children, including Preschool classes, multi-week productions, and a massive collection of week-long day camps in theatre, visual arts, dance, Broadway, magic, video game design, filmmaking, and dozens of other specialty subjects. Each summer, students travel from across the United States and around the world to the Oklahoma City University campus to participate in the Performing Arts Academy’s summer music programs. Our intensive pre-college programs are designed for serious students who want to develop their talents and be challenged by OKCU’s high standards. Our programs are chiefly directed and instructed by faculty from OKCU's outstanding Bass School of Music and TheatreOKCU. Camp Canterbury

Canterbury Youth Voices invites children who love to sing to enroll for the 13th annual Camp Canterbury. During this summer camp, the CYV staff leads children in developing vocal artistry, good choral techniques and music literacy, all in a dynamic and fun choral setting. In addition to choir, students get to choose from different music classes including folk dancing, ukulele, and much more!
