1958 OCU Men's Basketball Alumni Reunion

1958 OCU Men’s Basketball Reunion

In 1985, Oklahoma City University joined the NAIA division of college athletics. Prior to that year, our small university from Oklahoma City was part of the NCAA Division I schools. Yes, we were a powerhouse in NCAA college basketball, playing universities like UCLA, Kansas, Loyola and Creighton. Head coaches Doyle Parrack (1950-1955) and Abe Lemons (1955-1973, 1984-1990) recruited young men who gave their all on the basketball courts of OCU and who were forever shaped by their time on our campus.

This dedication to OCU and to each other is evidenced to this day by our 1958 OCU Men’s Basketball Team. Each year, these men and their spouses travel from various states to come together once again as a team. They reminisce over old pictures and their time as OCU’s basketball greats, and they update each other on current happenings in their families. This friendship is one that has reached far beyond the basketball courts and has spanned a lifetime.

However, their time on the OCU basketball courts did not end when they graduated. Anytime they have the opportunity, the readily return to our courts to provide inspiration to our current players. As OCU Alumni, these men and their spouses are wonderful examples of the joy that can be found in reconnecting with OCU and giving back to the school that provided the foundation for our successes.
