Welcome to the Department of History

Learn how and why our past is written.
Put yourself in the minds and times of the people you'll study as a history student, and practice the skills and habits of historians. Understand the elements of culture that shape everyday life. This is what it means to study history, and it's what you'll do as a history major at OKCU.
Investigate the Past; Inform the Future
Research is a vital part of studying history. OKCU students learn to find, analyze and interpret all kinds of materials, from shipping manifests to personal diaries, international treaties to song lyrics.
Think critically. Cite your sources.
In a world of globalizing economic markets and ever-expanding technologies, history teaches you to research topics and communicate your findings clearly. Employers love this.
Critical Thinking Skills
When it's time to look for a job, you may be pleasantly surprised at how excited your prospective employer will be when they learn how adept you've become at

- communicating what you've found to people who aren't specialists in your area.
