She has been a teacher educator at Oklahoma City University since 2007 and previously taught at the University of Oklahoma and Northwestern Oklahoma State University. Her scholarship interests include quality children’s literature and the experiences and beliefs of teacher educators.

Dr. Willner has published in academic journals and has presented at professional conferences and in university classrooms in the United States, Sweden, Estonia, South Korea, England, and Slovakia. In addition to her university position, she is a volunteer for Oklahoma Project WILD and a classroom reader at Positive Tomorrows, a school for children who are homeless. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Oklahoma Children’s Theatre.

Mentoring teacher candidates at a liberal arts university is rewarding for Dr. Willner. She believes that joy is the core of excellent teaching and that radiating from that core are extensive content knowledge, respect for students, and the use of quality research to guide practice.
