Biography

I'm interested in both so-called literary writing and so-called genre writing, and in particular the intersection where the two kinds of writing meet (I'm not even really sure they're two different kinds of writing, to tell you the truth). As a teacher, I try most of all to help the writer figure out where his or her story, novel, or script wants to go—and then figure out the best way to get there.

Lou Berney is the bestselling author of the novels NOVEMBER ROAD (named one of the best books of 2018 by the Washington Post, Boston Globe, Newsweek, Booklist, and others), THE LONG AND FARAWAY GONE (winner of the Edgar Award), WHIPLASH RIVER, and GUTSHOT STRAIGHT. His short fiction has appeared in places such as The New Yorker, Ploughshares, and the Pushcart Prize anthology.
