Biography

Dr. Britton received a B.S. in Pharmacy at Auburn University (1981), a Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio (1983), and completed an Ambulatory Care Residency at the University of Texas at Austin (1984). After two years on the faculty of the University of Texas College of Pharmacy, he joined the faculty of the University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy in 1986 where he advanced to the rank of Professor and served as the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Professional Programs until retiring in 2016.

He has had significant involvement developing interprofessional practice models involving pharmacists within group practices of physicians, physician assistants and other primary care providers in a variety of primary care settings, with a focus on direct care and medication management for patients with diabetes, hypertension, lipid disorders and other commonly encountered chronic diseases. He is nationally recognized for work in developing and accrediting post-graduate pharmacy residency programs.

Dr. Britton has been heavily involved in academic program development, including all aspects of curriculum design, implementation, assessment, management, and accreditation. He has over 25 years experience teaching pharmacotherapy to physician assistant students in the didactic curriculum and has also worked with physician assistant faculty and students in ambulatory clinical settings during the clinical phase of physician assistant education.
