Biography

Alumnus: ’74 Bachelor of Arts ’77 Juris Doctor 

Phil Busey is Native American and member of the Cherokee Nation and Delaware Tribe. He was born and resides in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is married to Cathy Callaway Busey.

Busey established the Busey Group of Companies in 2000 and the flagship company, DRG, in 2002 with defense subcontracting opportunities for Boeing Aerospace. Under his leadership, the Busey Group of Companies and DRG have experienced 4,000% growth since 2002. Starting with two employees in 2002, DRG now has over 700 employees in 45 locations nationally and internationally. In twelve years, DRG has grown to become one of Oklahoma’s leading defense contractors with global locations.

Busey practiced law for 27 years until 2005. His areas of practice experience include commercial law, corporate law, public finance, federal government and contract regulation, defense and government contracting law and Native American law.

He graduated from Oklahoma City University in 1974 with a dual B.A. degree in history and political science. He was a scholar-athlete (baseball) and a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Busey received his J.D. from Oklahoma City University School of Law in 1977.
