Biography

Dr. Vanessa Wright, PhD, MSN, RN, started her nursing journey as an LPN in 2008 and received her Associates in Nursing from Northern Oklahoma College in 2010. She obtained her BSN in 2011, MSN in 2013, and PhD in 2017 from Oklahoma City University. Dr. Wright is full time faculty at Kramer School of Nursing, teaching students in both the undergraduate and graduate programs. She has been a nursing educator since 2012 and is passionate about producing nursing research grounded in Watson’s Theory of Human Caring and Unitary Caring Science. She has presented her research at the local, state, and international level- and has been published in peer reviewed journals. Recently, she was accepted into the Postdoctoral Scholars Program at Watson Caring Science Institute under the direct mentorship of Nursing Theory Jean Watson.

Her accepted awards include: The ION “30 under 30 Healthcare” award presented by Governor Mary Fallin in 2016, The “Innovation of Teaching and Learning Award” by OCU’s Center of Excellence for Teaching and Learning, and “The Great 100 Nurses” Award for the state of Oklahoma in 2018. She was recently elected to serve as the Education Director for the Oklahoma Nurses Association and is involved in many professional organizations. She has been an active member of STTI for the past 7 years and served as the academic vice president representing OCU from 2014-2018. Her clinical practice areas included Emergency Nursing, Medical-Surgical, and House Supervisor.
