Patti Biera

Entertainment Operations Assistant In the Ann Lacy School of American Dance & Entertainment

Works in Gaylord Center, Room 172
At OKCU since January 2017

What do you do at OKCU?

Patti is Associate Dean Melanie Shelley’s assistant. The job was new when Patti started, and she has played a role in evolving the job beyond building monitor and miscellaneous responsibilities. She handles contracts, such as when The Rockettes, Music Theatre Wichita, and Royal Caribbean hold auditions on campus, mostly in the spring. In fall 2017, she set up the dance school’s own auditions, including assembling prospective student profiles for each high school senior. Patti is in charge of the school’s prospective student database, and she coordinates with the admissions department and puts together packets for interested students. She also supervises six reception-area work-study students.

What do you like about working here?

“I like the atmosphere; it’s very professional. I’ve never seen anything work quite the way this school works—seeing how put together everything is. Everything has a purpose.” She said it’s fulfilling for her to step up her game to that level of organization. “Here, I’m really working hard to keep up with everybody because everybody’s so great. I’m always improving here.” Patti is working toward her Master of Arts in Nonprofit Leadership with an arts administration emphasis.

What do you like about OKCU broadly?

“I really like how small of a school it is and how close-knit everybody seems to be, especially here in the dance school. All the students are so close.”

What is it like being in a performing arts environment?

“It’s great. I just love the people I get to work with—there are so many different personalities. My personality fits in much better.”

What’s something people may not know about you?

“I like board games. My favorite one is called Mysterium, like a fancy Clue with beautiful cards you would hang on your wall. It’s a cooperative game. … We go over to our friends’ house and play games.”

Patti went to college at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. She loves Oklahoma City and its many restaurants. “Every weekend, we could try something new if we wanted to, but we usually don’t.”

She and Cindy Gonzalez, administrative assistant to Jo Rowan, met performing in “Legally Blonde: The Musical” and got married in April 2018. Cindy graduated from OKCU in 2013 with a bachelor’s in dance management. They have a Corgi mix named Corabelle, a boxer mix named Etsee, and a cat named Hope.
