Mark Alvarez

Mark Alvarez is a native of Oklahoma City and graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor’s in Flute performance in 2018. He started work on a Master’s in Multiple Woodwind Performance at the University of New Mexico in the fall of 2018 and has since transferred to OCU to complete a Master’s in Multiple Woodwind Performance! Mark hopes to become either a successful Broadway-style musician or teach at the collegiate level, hopefully teaching multiple instruments! In his free time, Mark loves spending time with family and friends and his adorable cat Lilac.

Katie Crim

Katie Crim

Katie Crim is a student, flutist, and aspiring conductor from Hallsville Texas. She is currently a sophomore at Oklahoma City University where she pursuing a degree in flute performance, with additional studies in piano and vocal coaching. Katie hopes to work in a professional opera someday as a conductor and vocal coach. She is passionate about the arts; great musical, theater, visual, culinary arts, and the written word. Katie loves to travel and has been fortunate to visit and perform in some of the world’s great cities. Katie cannot wait to resume her adventures when the current pandemic passes.

Allison Demand

Allison Demand

Allison Demand is a first-year graduate student pursuing a double Masters in Instrumental Performance and Non-Profit Leadership- Arts Administration. Graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Eastern Michigan University this Michigan native fills her time with music, family, and friends. Upon graduation, Allison hopes to create community arts programs while continuing to share her love for music.

Anna Deng

Anna Deng

Anna Deng is working towards a Master of Arts in Nonprofit Leadership degree with a focus in Arts Administration after earning a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance from Oklahoma City University. She was raised near Cleveland, Ohio, and has been a flutist for 14 years. With experience from being a part of a diverse amount of ensemble groups—from an Early Music ensemble to a flute choir that performs contemporary music—she enjoys collaborating with other musicians to perform various styles of music. Anna is currently a flute faculty member at El Sistema Oklahoma, where she helps young students learn how to better express themselves through music. In her free time, Anna enjoys watching choreography videos, listening to Kpop, and learning about different cultures.

Mollie Flanagan

Mollie Flanagan is a freshman non-major who graduated from Del City High School. While she is currently undecided on a career outlook, Mollie enjoys being a part of the flute studio.

Jonathan Grasso

Jonathan Grasso

Jonathan was born and raised along the Suncoast region of central Florida. He has been playing flute since 2000 and was an active member of several central Florida community bands. In 2014, he joined the 77th Army band stationed near Lawton, OK where he doubled in flute and piccolo. The music-intensive curriculum and culturally diverse learning environment are what attracted Jonathan to OCU. Jonathan is pursuing his bachelor’s of music in flute performance, studying under the lead Professor Parthena Owens. In addition to music, Jonathan enjoys cake decorating and traveling.

Jacob Goforth

Jacob Goforth

Jacob Goforth is a first-year graduate student pursuing a degree in Multiple Woodwind Performance. Originally from Snohomish, Washington, Jacob is back to complete his third post-graduate degree. He completed his first Master’s at the University of North Carolina Greensboro and a Doctorate in Bassoon at Florida State University. Jacob hopes to continue to teach and play all the woodwind instruments; embracing all opportunities that are presented to him. In his free time, Jacob spends the weekends in Fort Worth with his wife, Elaine, and they love grilling in the Texas heat!

Sarah Hamel

Sarah Hamel

Sarah Hamel is a third-year undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Music Education. Originally from Mustang, Oklahoma; she has been playing the flute for ten years and the piano for twelve. Outside of school, she enjoys movies and time with her friends and family. Sarah looks forward to teaching middle and high school students while maintaining an active private flute studio.

Thalia is a first-year graduate student pursuing a Master’s in Flute Performance. She was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas where she graduated from Karen Wagner High School. After graduating she went to Angelo State University where she earned a degree in Music Education. Upon graduating in May of 2020, she decided to continue education here at OCU. Eventually, Thalia would love to be able to perform and travel with a large ensemble. In her free time, Thalia loves to play guitar, ukulele, and sing.

Wren Pfahl

Wren Pfahl

Wren Pfahl is a flutist, private flute instructor, and arts administrator studying in Oklahoma City. Originally from Hendersonville, Tennessee, she received her Bachelor’s degree in Flute Performance from Oklahoma City University in 2018 where she will graduate with her Master’s in Flute Performance in 2020. She serves as principal flutist in the OCU Symphony Orchestra, Wind Philharmonic, and Opera and Musical Theatre Orchestra and is a section flutist with the Oklahoma Composer’s Orchestra.

Luis Sanchez

Luis Sanchez

Luis Sanchez is a music education major studying at Oklahoma City University. He is a proud member of the OCU Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Wind Philharmonic, which under the direction of Matthew Mailman, premiered Homage to Landini by Ron Nelson. Although he is primarily a clarinetist, he loves playing the flute and other woodwind instruments to better understand the techniques to develop music pedagogy. Luis’ dream in the education world, is to teach beginning woodwinds at a middle school. Currently, he is teaching music fundamentals at El Sistema Orchestras, and Carl Albert High School Band as one of the woodwind technicians.

BreAuna Shaw

BreAuna Shaw

BreAuna Shaw is a Sophomore, Business Administration major from Oklahoma City, OK. She graduated from Moore High School. Initially, the amazing music and business programs led BreAuna to Oklahoma City University. BreAuna plans to work with music businesses. Specifically, but not limited to, instrumental music businesses such as Oklahoma Youth Orchestra and Drum Corps International. She is interested in media management and working on the marketing side of these types of businesses. BreAuna also loves trying new restaurants and watching Netflix. She has also just recently gotten into Animé!

Clay Steiner

Clay Steiner

Clay Steiner is a first-year graduate student at Oklahoma City University studying multiple woodwind performance. He is a recent graduate from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee with a BFA in multiple woodwind performance and a minor in music. Clay aspires to be a Broadway pit musician while pursuing opportunities for touring and studio recording instrumentalists. Outside of school, he likes to stay busy performing and teaching as well as exploring and enjoying the outdoors, learning new things, and spending time with his family.
