Course Requirements
Required General Education courses
Required General Education courses for nursing students are listed below. Students may not begin 3000-level nursing courses with more than 9 credit hours of these courses remaining.
Cameron University’s Associate in Science in Allied Health Sciences (with World Religions course) currently satisfies these requirements. Beginning in summer 2016, an approved AA or AS degree with a religion course will also satisfy these requirements. General Education courses are also not required of students who already have an approved bachelor's degree in another field.
English Composition I (3 credit hours)

Philosophy/Ethics course (3) (from a list of specified courses)
Liberal Arts Seminar (3)
United States History (3)
Introduction to Biblical Literature or World Religions (3)
Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences (3) (recommended) or College Algebra (3)
Governance in America (3)
Arts course (3)
World Literature or Western Literature (3)
Foreign language (6 in the same language)
Methods of Scientific Inquiry (3)
Cross Cultural Study Requirement, met by taking World Religions, World Literature, or an approved Study Abroad Course
Enough electives to bring the grand total to at least 124 credit hours.
Courses required of all students before starting 3000-level nursing courses:
Anatomy and Physiology II with lab (3-5)*
Microbiology with a lab (3-4)
Introduction to Psychology (3)
A college chemistry course with a lab, preferably introductory, general, or organic chemistry (4-5)
*A full semester of Human Anatomy with a lab and a full semester of Human Physiology may be substituted for Anatomy and Physiology I and Anatomy and Physiology II. This option requires the substitution of both courses; students cannot substitute only one course.
