Taylor Carter

Taylor Carter is a graduate Flute Performance major. He attended OCU with the Flute Assistantship, playing with the graduate quintet and the graduate trio. Both ensembles performed for musical and opera premieres, on-campus donor banquets, and many recitals.

With his time at Oklahoma City University as a graduate student he has performed great works from composers like Stravinsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Debussy, and Beethoven with the OCU Symphony Orchestra. At the beginning of his second year, OCU announced its new Wind Ensemble, making him an original member, performing works by Cindy McTee, Judy Bozone, and Frank Ticheli as a principal player and a piccoloist in both major ensembles. While at OCU, Taylor attended and performed many masterclasses given by world renowned flutists such as Amy Porter and Mimi Stillman, along with other musicians.

In the spring of 2019 and 2020, he traveled to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to participate in the OKMEA Intercollegiate Honor Band, making principal piccolo both occasions. He concluded his last semester as a graduate student with his graduate recital, which was performed on March 10, 2020, playing works by Katherine Hoover, Carl Vine, Philippe Gaubert, and Amanda Harberg.

The Wanda L. Bass School of Music congratulates Taylor Carter, graduating with the Master of Music in flute performance!

Dr. Matt Mailman shares: “It is hard to believe that after so many years of working together in OYW and your two OCU degrees that you are finally moving on. You have always had a great attitude and a great work ethic, but it has been a joy to watch your performance level mature and grow over the years. I'm very proud of you, and you will be missed. OCU will not be the same without you.”
