ACTING
BFA actors will take 10 acting classes over their 4 years (covering the basics of Stanislavski, scene study, Chekhov, Shakespeare, Greek and Advanced Acting Styles, Audition Techniques and Professional Preparation and two semesters of On-Camera Acting), along with extensive voice and movement training, a study of script analysis and theatre history, and an introduction to technical theatre and directing. The student's cross-training in voice and dance are provided by the Bass School of Music and the Ann Lacy School of Dance.
MOVEMENT & STAGE COMBAT
Today’s rapidly changing industry is craving artists who put their whole being on the line, turning on a dime between intimate, emotional vulnerability and bold, physical risk-taking. Theatre is becoming an athletic event, requiring artists who can fill the physically expressive demands of modern audiences and directors. We strive to unlock the boundless creativity of the next wave of performers with bold movement training that reconnects students to their primal impulses and then shapes those impulses into articulate and inspiring expressions. We believe this is best accomplished through a select combination of approaches. (Contact Improvisation, The Feldenkais Method, Viewpoints, Suzuki, Stage Combat)
ON-CAMERA
The On Camera Acting track consists of two full semesters of training in which students extend the craft they’ve developed in their chosen major within the School of Theatre to include a study of the mechanics and philosophies that will prepare them to work as screen actors.
Students are introduced to the requirements of camera acting through in-class exercises and scene work shot in a “real world” on-set environment.
Students complete the sequence not only with confidence in their on-camera audition skills and knowledge of the working film set, but with high-production value material for their reels.
VOICE
Brennan Check-In is a new approach to working for the artist that cultivates the whole self – physical, emotional and mental. Founded on the principle that voice is self, it invites students to connect more deeply with themselves in breath and body in order to connect more deeply to the outside world with vibration and range.
