OKLAHOMACITY – As news pours in about the newest wake ofdeadly tornadoes in the Midwest, students at Oklahoma City University have notforgotten the victims of last year’s EF5 tornado that killed more than 100 andleft 8,000 structures damaged in Joplin, Mo.
Students will help rebuild some of thosestructures during a spring break mission trip sponsored by the university. TheRev. Jennifer Long, OCU director of religious life, OCU Professor Leslie Longand 17 students will join other volunteers in Joplin from March 19 to 23. Thegroup includes about five religion students as well as domestic andinternational students from nearly every school at OCU.
Rev. Jennifer Long said the group will gowith a heart of service.
“It’s really important we don’t get so focusedon our own lives that we forget we’re part of a whole,” she said. “That’s easyto forget as a college student because it’s all about you and your future.There’s a lot of people that need help and it’s our call to serve them.”
Oklahoma City University’s Wesley Centeris accepting contributions to sponsor students on the mission trip. $350 coversthe cost to send one student and includes project funds.
