Oklahoma City University will host three presentations Oct. 4 by Native American Bishop Steven Charleston for this year’s annual Willson Lectures with the theme, “The Native American Gospel.” All lectures are free to the public and will be held in the Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel on N.W. 23rd Street between Blackwelder and Kentucky avenues.
Charleston’s presentations will include “The Old Testament of Native America” at 1 p.m., “The Tribes of Israel/The Tribes of America: A Spiritual Economy” at 3 p.m. and “The Covenant of Kinship” at 7 p.m.
Charleston is visiting professor of Native American Ministries at Saint Paul School of Theology at Oklahoma City University. He has served as president and dean of Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, Mass., and as bishop of the Episcopal Church in Alaska. Most recently, Charleston has served as interim dean at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Oklahoma City. He is a member of the Choctaw Nation.
