OCU Walk Puts the Brakes on Distracted Driving

A one-mile awareness walk at Oklahoma City University will focus on the dangers of distracted driving. The walk begins at 6 p.m. March 28 in front of the McDaniel University Center. Registration is free to the public.

The walk is the third annual distracted driving event hosted by the university. OCU Counseling Director Brandi Gibson and mass communications administrative assistant Karen Vann are co-chairs for the event. Gibson’s stepdaughter, Emily, was killed in a distracted driving accident in 2009. Gibson, Vann and staff joined together to promote Oprah Winfrey’s No Phone Zone campaign.

The walk will include music and entertainment, door prizes and kids’ booths.

T-shirts are available for $10 and donations will be accepted. All proceeds will fund distracted driving awareness events. For more information, or to register, email or, or call Vann at (405) 208-5252.
