Biography
Dr. Heejin Jang, a native of South Korea, recently received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Oklahoma on a full scholarship. Dr. Jang received a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the Ewha Women’s University in Korea, and a Master of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma.
As a soloist, she was featured as the winner of the several competitions, including University of Oklahoma Concerto Competition (2008 – 2009), MTNA Oklahoma State Division Young Artist Competition (2009 and 2010), and Oklahoma Community Orchestra Young artist competition (2011). Additionally, she was named the alternate winner of MTNA South Central Division Young Artist Competition (2009 and 2010), and received a second prize in the Donna Turner Smith Piano Competition (2012).
As a collaborative pianist, she was a rehearsal accompanist for the University of Oklahoma School of Music Opera Productions of Lakme by Delibes (Fall 2008), Marriage of Figaro by Mozart (Spring 2009), Die Fledermous by Strauss (Fall 2009), and The Turn of the Screw by Britten (Spring 2010).
She has held Teaching Assistantship positions at the University of Oklahoma as a graduate teaching assistant. Jang has taught collegiate group and applied piano and recently received The Provost's Certificate of Distinction for Outstanding Graduate Assistant Teaching, which was given to the top 10 percent of all graduate assistants across campus by student evaluations for courses taught during the Fall 2013 semester.
Dr. Jang joined the Oklahoma City University School of Music as adjunct professor in piano in August 2014 teaching class piano, applied piano, and piano pedagogy courses.
