Biography

Kate Pritchett, professor of horn, currently plays principal horn with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, principal horn with the Lawton Philharmonic, and as an extra with the Tulsa Symphony. She also frequently plays with the Oklahoma City Brightmusic Chamber Music Ensemble as well as with Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma and national tours of musical theatre productions in OKC. Earlier playing experiences include the Dallas Opera Orchestra, the Richardson Symphony Orchestra, the Greeley Philharmonic in Colorado, the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra of New Zealand, and (on period instruments) with early-music groups such as the Orchestra of New Spain.

Dr. Pritchett received both her DMA and MM in horn performance at the University of North Texas. She earned her Bachelor of Music at the University of Northern Colorado. Her teachers have included William Scharnberg, Greg Hustis, Bill Bernatis, and Jack Herrick.

In addition to Oklahoma City University, where she has taught since 2002, teaching positions have included those at the University of Texas at Arlington, Texas Woman’s University, and the University of North Texas. More recently, she taught at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan.
