Biography
Mr. Paul Nesper is a performer and educator originally from Tinley Park, Illinois, now residing in Del City, OK. He currently teaches applied tuba and euphonium lessons, leads the tuba/euphonium ensemble, and maintains an active private studio.
Mr. Nesper holds degrees in Tuba Performance from Illinois Wesleyan University (BM 04) and Illinois State University (MM 06). He has performed professionally with the Enid Symphony, New Mexico Symphony, Tulsa Symphony, Norman Philharmonic, Santa Fe Concert Association, and Winds of the Prairie. As a passionate chamber musician, he currently plays with the Boulevard Brass Quintet and was previously a member of Boyd Street Brass and the Juggernaut Tuba Quartet. Paul has also developed a taste for British-style brass band music. He was a founding member of the Frontier Brass Band in Oklahoma City in 2014, and was a member of the 2022 North American Brass Championship Section winning ensemble, the Fountain City Brass Band.
As a teacher, Paul as been active in the Oklahoma music scene for over 15 years. He has taught previously at The University of Central Oklahoma, Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and East Central University. His students have gone on to achieve advanced degrees in music and many are currently teaching throughout Oklahoma and Texas. He has taken his studio to national and international events in Indiana, Texas, Kansas, and Nebraska. In his private studio, his students consistently achieve superior marks at regional and state contests. He has also been active in the world of Drum Corps International. He has served on the staffs of both The Troopers and Seattle Cascades Drum and Bugle Corps, serving as brass caption head with the Cascades in 2018.
When Paul isn’t in the practice room or working with his students, he can be found at Classical KUCO 90.1 FM talking to the many talented artists, performers, and conductors from across the state. When he’s at home you’ll often find him working on something new in the kitchen, and yes, he shares with all! He’s also an avid disc golfer and will (hopefully) be completing his 7th and 8th marathons this Fall.
