OCU hosts homecoming activities

Oklahoma City University will celebrate homecoming Nov. 4-11 with a series of events under the theme “Where Your Story Began.”

One of the free public events is the third-annual Legacy Speaker presentation. This year’s speaker is Tabatha Carr, founder of Good Girl Chocolate, who will give a presentation at 1 p.m. Nov. 7 in the Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel. Carr is an OCU alumna and a leading authority in the field of women’s health and wellness.

More festivities will build up to a parade at noon Nov. 11 to drum up enthusiasm for the homecoming basketball games later that day, all of which are open to the public.

The parade route will wrap around campus starting near the corner of NW 23rd Street and Kentucky Avenue, traveling north to NW 27th Street and turning east to finish near McKinley Avenue and the Meinders School of Business. The public viewing area will be on NW 27th Street near Kentucky Avenue.

A map with the parade route, viewing areas and recommended guest parking is available here. Dances and performances will be viewable from the marked parade watch area.

Limited spots are available for those interested in participating in the parade. To register please email [email protected].

The parade will feature entries from several university student organizations, homecoming royalty candidates, as well as alumni groups, businesses and community partners. Local attorney J.R. Homsey, an OCU trustee and alumnus, will serve as parade grand marshal.

Homecoming also coincides with OCU’s annual Parents and Family Day.  Alumni, families of students and the public are encouraged to attend a community tailgating event in the Freede Wellness and Activity Center upper level from 1-4:30 p.m. Nov. 11.

The OCU Stars homecoming basketball games against the Friends University Falcons begin at 2 p.m. in the Freede Wellness and Activity Center.

As part of homecoming, OCU students work on service projects and are leading a book drive to benefit the community.
