Powerful Prose Examines Supreme Court Justice Ginsburg

Oklahoma City University’s Powerful Prose series continues with a presentation of the book “My Own Words,” written by Ruth Bader Ginsburg and her authorized biographers Mary Hartnett and Wendy W. Williams. OKCU professor Karen Youmans will lead the discussion at 6 p.m. March 23 at Full Circle Bookstore.

The presentation is free to the public. Full Circle Bookstore is in the 50 Penn Place shopping center at 1900 Northwest Expressway.

This is the first book from Ginsburg since becoming a Supreme Court justice in 1993 and contains a collection of writings and speeches.

“My Own Words” features Justice Ginsburg on wide-ranging topics, including gender equality, the workways of the Supreme Court, being Jewish, law and lawyers in opera and the value of looking beyond U.S. shores when interpreting the U.S. Constitution.

Justice Ginsburg wrote the introduction to the book, and Mary Hartnett and Wendy W. Williams introduce each chapter, giving biographical context and comments gleaned from hundreds of interviews they have conducted.

“Powerful Prose: Great Ideas and the Literature that Advances Them” is a monthly series led by Oklahoma City University’s Petree College of Arts and Sciences professors. For more information, call Full Circle Bookstore at 405-842-2900 or visit okcu.edu.
