Theatre Season Features Timely Approach to Timeless Classics

Julius Caesar promo

TheatreOCU, the production company of Oklahoma City University’s School of Theatre, will open its first show of the season Oct. 25-28 with William Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar.”

The play will be staged in the Burg Theatre inside the Kirkpatrick Fine Arts Center at N.W. 24th Street and Blackwelder Avenue. Tickets are $15 and available online at okcu.edu/tickets or by calling 405-208-5227.

This reimagining of “Julius Caesar” is set in the same period as the John F. Kennedy assassination. It brings the following questions home in a very American context: What are the limits and boundaries of friendship? What would we be willing to do to follow the path we believe is right? As relevant today as it was 400 years ago, the play explores the tensions amongst our public selves.

Brian Parsons, associate dean of the School of Theatre, said this year’s season features plays that explore some major current events.

“We are deeply proud and excited to present this thrilling mix of timely classics and award-wining new writing,” Parsons said. “The season will be brought to you by our wonderful students — on stage and behind the scenes — working with theatre faculty and guest working professionals. We encourage you to support these future stars of stage and screen.”
